Mrs. Dorothy M. Donovan died peacefully at home in Sunrise, Florida on February 2, 2025 at the age of 97.
Dorothy is survived by her children Connie Carlisle (Philip) and Roy Donovan (Susan), grandchildren Thomas King, Matthew Donovan, Melissa Donovan McCloskey, Melanie Donovan Escobedo, Ryan Donovan, Jesse Rietrib, Russell Donovan, and great grandchildren Riley, Eddie, Teddy, Julianna, Landon and Mason. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Donovan and sons Edward Donovan and Russell Donovan.
Dorothy was born on October 27, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to Thomas and Katherine Spencer.
She married her sweetheart on November 18, 1946, whom she was married to for 49 years. While raising her four children, Dorothy worked for a temp agency as a Comptometer Operator. She then worked in the banking industry once her children were grown.
Dorothy and Edward lived in Brooklyn, New York until retirement at which time they pursued their dream of traveling the country in their RV. After their trip was done they relocated to their condo in Sun City Center, Florida where they spent the winter months, returning to their cabin on the Delaware River in Milanville, Pennsylvania for the rest of the year. In recent years, Dorothy lived in Sunrise, Florida with her daughter.
Dorothy was accomplished at baking, sewing, painting and making preserves from the fruits she grew in her garden. She was an avid card player and enjoyed visiting the casinos.
She loved to travel and visited many places in Europe with her good friend, Ella Mae.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for February 20, 2025, 1:30pm at Landmark Funeral Home, 4200 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, FL. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dorothy’s life. The family would like to thank Continuum Hospice Care for all of their support.
