Glenn ‘Unc’ Kuhnle, 77, of Lauderdale By The Sea Florida, passed away on February 13, 2023 after a brief but aggressive battle with tongue cancer.
He is survived by his nephew Charles H. Hennekens IV (partner Jillena Conaway) of Fort Lauderdale and his niece Jennifer Hennekens of Dania Beach. His death is preceded by his sister, Valerie Verbeke, of Plantation.
Glenn was born in Jamaica Queens, New York and spent the majority of his life in New York City. After graduating from Mount St Mary’s College in 1968 with a Bachelor’s of Science, he began a teaching position at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy in Astoria, Queens NY from the late 60’s through the early 70’s. He then changed professions to what would be a long and rewarding career of over 30 years with the New York court system as a Police Sargent. His patience, steadfastness, and responsible nature allowed him to retire early from this position and in 2004 he moved to Florida to be closer to his family and live the “South Florida lifestyle”.
Glenn loved to watch and play many sports during his lifetime including baseball, basketball, golf, tennis and softball. He loved his New York Knicks and the history of the NBA. Glenn was not only a voracious baseball lover and die-hard Mets fan, but he was very active in his local softball teams. Once in Florida he looked forward to his weekly games and spending time with great friends that he made over the years playing around the state in weekend tournaments over all age groups. With his gregarious nature, he continued to have close friends around the country. He often traveled to spend time with them in New York, sailing the seas as an avid cruise-taker or travelling to Las Vegas.
Glenn’s friends and family will remember him as a strong, loyal, social, fun loving, kind hearted and charming man who lived life to the fullest every day. While never officially being a “husband”, his life lived as a bachelor most certainly afforded him many an opportunity to marry. “Unc” lived his life as he wanted and loved every minute of it. Anybody lucky enough to know him would understand and admit the same. Glenn’s presence touched many people throughout his life and he will be terribly missed by all.
A graveside service/interment is scheduled for 12:30pm on Thursday, Feb 23 2023 at Lauderdale Memorial Park, Garden 22. For those not able to attend, the service will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/events/1325114718063110/?ref=newsfeed.
