Mary Lou, 97, passed away in the comfort of her home on September 13. Born in Scranton, PA, she was the eldest child of the late Bernard F. and Margaret (Reedy) Harding. She graduated from Marywood Seminary and attended Chestnut Hill College prior to marrying James P. Burne, Sr. They celebrated their 56th anniversary prior to his death in 2001.
Preceded in death by her sister, Joan Gavin, brother David J. Harding, grandchildren Ann Burne and Steven W. Burne and great grandson Henry Burne.
Mary Lou is survived by her children James P. Burne, Jr. (Nancy) of Bucks County, PA, Ellen Burne, Hollywood, FL, Louise Oetting (Rudy) Hollywood, FL and Patricia Zanetti (Peter) Suwanee, GA, grandchildren James P. Burne III (Myra) and Bridget Burne of Bucks County, PA, Peter C. Zanetti III of Marietta, GA, three great grandchildren Will, Owen and Oliver, brothers Bernard and Michael Harding, sister Karen Motsavage and several nieces and nephews.
She gladly devoted her life to raising her family, was blessed with a sunny disposition and caring heart that immediately drew people to her. Mary Lou generously supported charities and individuals in need, preferring to do so without fanfare or recognition. Friends of her children were always welcome into the family home where they enjoyed her laugh along with a Coke and some Charles Chips. Additionally, she was an avid reader from an early age.
A woman of deep faith, Mary Lou attended daily mass well into her 80’s and was one of the early members of the Chaminade/Nativity Community of Faith Charismatic Prayer Group serving on the Healing Team and Prayer Chain.
Her children would like to extend sincere appreciation to Denise and Sharline who provided kind and compassionate care during the past 5-1/2 years.
Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, September 19, from 6 – 9pm at Landmark Funeral Home, 4200 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, FL. A 12:00 noon funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 20, at Nativity Catholic Church, 5220 Johnson Street, Hollywood, FL, followed by interment at Hollywood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, c/o Nativity Catholic Church at the address noted above.
