Sr. BEATRICE ROSE BANATTE, R.A., age 88, formerly of Pompano Beach and recently of St. John’s Nursing Center in Lauderdale Lakes, returned to her Lord on September 14, 2021. Sr. Beatrice, a native of Les Cayes, Haiti, was the daughter of Rita Banatte, who predeceased her. Sr. Beatrice was a member of the congregation of the Religious of the Assumption; she would have celebrated 60 years of consecrated life next July. After completing a Montessori Diploma, Sr. Beatrice helped to direct several Montessori programs, including those at Assumption Academy in Miami, Our Lady of the Lake, Madison, WI, and Ravenhill Academy in Philadelphia. Later she worked in healthcare with a special concern for the terminally ill. She was famous for her artistic sensibility as well as her excellent cooking and baking, but it was her ability to form relationships with all sorts of people that made her stand out. In this, she was simply following her great intuition about Jesus, having realized at six years old that “I will be a friend of Jesus,” doing that by being “present – living, serving and praying with the community.” In recent years, after the death of her mother, her “community” was made up of the many friends that she made at St. Elizabeth Gardens Apartments in Pompano Beach. She will be sorely missed by them and by her religious community as well. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 11691 NW 25 Street, Doral, Florida followed by interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
