Giles, Gerald William, 87 (b. Lowell, MA), died in graceful peace at home on hospice care with family at his side on 7/17/18 after a valiant 13-month battle with cancer. A retired BCS teacher and 35-year educator, Mr. Giles had come to FL in 1984 from CA where he had been principal of Univ. of San Diego High School and had established the planned giving program for the Diocese of San Diego. Mr. Giles excelled at football and baseball at Keith Academy, where he also served as senior class president. He earned a B.A. from St. Anselm College and an M.A. from Bowling Green State Univ. Mr. Giles was an actor and singer, and served as a medic in the Army of the Occupation in Germany, 1951-53 (Corporal). He was generous and joyfully devoted to his family. Mr. Giles was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Regis Giles, USN, MIA-KIA (Korea), his daughter, Juliana, and his infant son, John Regis. Survivors include his sister, Marilyn Cornacchia, of NC; brother James (Judith Wakim), of TN; daughters Michele (Jonathan Romero), Maura (John Watson), and Vanessa; son Devin Benedict; grandchildren Michael (Ana Fajardo), Sarah (Shawn Duheme), Annan, and Ric; and great-grandchildren Reyna, Máire, Alice, and Eleanor.
