Rev Robert Richardson born in 1935 and raised in Malden Massachusetts. He was the Beloved son of the late Holley and Dorothy Richardson. The youngest of two brothers. The late Donald Richardson, Survived by Kenneth Richardson and his wife Kay Richardson. Several nieces and nephews Lee (Richardson) and her husband Carl Brooks, Alan Richardson, Linda Ringer, David Richardson, and Sandy Richardson
He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in 1957 to pursue theological studies. From 1960 to 1961, he studied with the Franciscans of Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania. In the late 1950s, he attended Bentley College in Massachusetts and received The Silver Medal Award for Highest Honors in statewide CPA testing. He worked as controller and budget officer in Georgetown University in Washington DC until he found his true calling as a Catholic Priest for the Washington Archdiocese.
Prior to his retirement in 2005, Father Richardson served as a pastor in several parishes in Southern Maryland and later in Prince George’s County. For nine years, beginning in 1994, he was the pastor of St. John the Baptist de la Salle Parish in Chillum. In 1984, he was appointed as pastor of St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in McConchie and St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Hilltop, leading those parishes for 10 years. From 1978 to 1983, he was pastor at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Benedict, serving as parochial vicar for one year in 1977 before being named pastor of the Charles County parish. His CPA skills were also put to use at the Vatican Embassy in Washington D.C. It was there he personally met with Pope John Paul ll in 1979 during the historic visit that marked the first time a Pope ever visited our nation’s capital.
During the early years of his priesthood, Father Richardson served as a parochial vicar at parishes in Washington, D.C. and Montgomery County. He was the parochial vicar at St. Mary Mother of God, Washington, D.C. for several months in 1977; at St. Mary Parish, Rockville, from 1971 to 1972; at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Bethesda, from 1972 to 1975; and at St. Gabriel Parish, Washington, D.C., from 1975 to 1977.
Following his retirement at the age of 70; he moved to Hollywood Florida to continue the unfolding of God's Divine Plan. He continued to serve at Annunciation Catholic Church and most recently at Little Flower Catholic Church. He also was very active doing healing masses and Lenten missions at various parishes in South Florida. He also was part of the Knights of Columbus and for 18 years conducted a yearly healing retreat at Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Center in North Palm Beach.
A viewing will be Wednesday, November 8th, 9:30am – 11:00am with the Funeral Mass of the Resurrection beginning at 11:00am all at Little Flower Catholic Church, 1805 Pierce Street, Hollywood, FL 33020. Interment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Lauderdale Lakes.
