Richard Decatur II, known as “Richie,”
passed away on January 13, 2025, in Dania Beach, Florida, at the age of 40. He was the younger of two children, born to Richard and Karen Decatur in Cheverly, MD. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought warmth and laughter to all who knew him.
Richie was a simple guy who found joy in the little things—working on his cars, spending time at home with his parents, and hanging out with his neighbors. You could always find him outside tinkering with his cars or chatting with neighbors, offering advice on anything automotive. His greatest pride and joy was his 1980 Buick Regal, a restoration project he had been dedicated to for over 20 years. His proudest moments were spent bringing it back to life, pouring his heart and craftsmanship into every detail. He also devoted his talent in restoring his sister’s classic 1968 Ford Mustang, another testament to his passion and skill.
Richie’s meticulous nature and strong work ethic meant he never missed a day on the job- he loved working at Dent Wizard, taking immense pride in everything he did. There, he formed a brotherhood with his co-workers, a bond that can never be broken. Beyond his love for cars, he was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh, lifting spirits with his clever remarks and effortless charm. His presence will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his parents Richard and Karen Decatur; sister Christina Decatur Barreras, brother in law Henry Barreras, and nieces Arya Barreras and Madison Ortiz. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of hard work, humor, and passion will never be forgotten.

Born on Oct. 13, 1931, in Newark, N.J, he earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in teaching and later served as principal of three Broward County elementary schools. Ralph retired in 1993 after 32 years in the public school system; his last position was principal of Sheridan Hills Elementary. The couple moved to Florida in 1963, where they raised six children. Ralph was a loyal friend, leader, mentor and an inspiration to all who knew or worked with him. He lived up to the description of “guileless" that was noted in his college yearbook. He could recite the name of every child in his school. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren, and each of them felt his unwavering love and support. His great-grandchildren, or “the little guys” as he called them, were a special delight. After retirement, he and his wife spent countless days relishing life in their cabin amid the mountains of Georgia; they also enjoyed traveling together. Ralph appreciated nature and passed on his love of sunsets to his family. A talented caricaturist, he made model cars, could glue anything back together, enjoyed barbequing and tinkering in his garage, and took pride in fixing his car and maintaining his homes himself. In his later years, Ralph reveled in attending car shows where he and his son would stand with pride next to his 1936 Ford, a surprise gift from his son.
