Rudolph H. Oetting, 87, of Hollywood, FL, died peacefully at home on December 3, 2023, following a long illness. Born in Hoboken, NJ, Rudy joined the Marine Corps at age 17, becoming a flight radio operator and rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1966, and pioneered a 47-year career in the marketing industry as an internationally recognized leader, expert, author, and instructor in his field, receiving among other accolades the Direct Marketing Association’s Telephone Marketing Excellence Award in 1986. Throughout his life, including as president of his own NYC-based management consulting firm from 1980 to 2007, Rudy proudly logged more than one million miles in air travel, working with over 350 companies in 15 countries on six continents.
Moving from NJ to FL upon retirement, Rudy became a member of the Ft. Lauderdale Council of the Navy League of the United States and later served for three years as its president. He joined the board of directors of the Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum in 2014.
With his keen intelligence, inimitable sense of humor and quiet generosity, Rudy was respected and admired for his innate strength and integrity by all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Louise, daughters Alison and husband Michael and Jennifer and husband Rich; grandsons Chris, Eric, James, Xander and Will; sisters Mildred and Dolores He was predeceased by his wife Helen and son Chris. The family would like to thank caregiver Rosa Diaz for her loving and compassionate care during the last four years.
Friends may call Sunday, December 10th from 3 – 6 p.m. at Landmark Funeral Home, 4200 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, FL 33021. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 11th at 11 a.m. at Nativity Catholic Church, 5220 Johnson Street, Hollywood, FL 33021. Burial with military honors will be Tuesday, December 12th at 10 a.m. at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
