Captain Paul Gurdak

June 4, 1948 - December 31, 2023

Captain Paul Gurdak, 75, of Gray, Tennessee, passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on December 31, 2023, after a long hard fight from complications of leukemia.


He is survived by Laura, his loving wife of 52 years; his children Scott (James Sutton), Kenneth (Amy), Tina-Marie (Joshua Johnson); his grandchildren Cameron and Carter; his step-grandchildren Tristan, Devin, Trinity and Gracen; and his siblings Gregg (Linda), Kathy (Steve Kuras) and Rocky (Diane). He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Alice Gurdak, and his sister Kamilla.


Paul was a graduate of Archbiship Curley High School in Miami, Florida. After graduation and service in the U.S. Army, he received a Fire Service Administration degree at Miami-Dade Community College. He proudly served as a firefighter paramedic with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for 33 years, rising to the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Team (FL-TF-I Rigging Specialist) and deployed on numerous rescue missions across the world responding to natural disasters. He was an active volunteer on-scene in New York City responding to the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11. Additionally, Captain Gurdak volunteered at local schools throughout his career to educate children on the importance of fire safety.


He was an active member at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Elizabethton, Tennessee and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul was eager to always be of assistance to family, friends and anyone that needed help.


Paul’s family will receive friends from 5:00–7:00 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will commence the following day, Friday, January 5, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (510 West C Street, Elizabethton), under the direction of Father Jesus Guerrero. Following the funeral Mass, friends are invited to join the family for a reception at First Presbyterian Church (119 West F Street, Elizabethton) at approximately 12:00 pm.


Services will resume in Florida, where visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Valerie Panciera-Rieth’s Landmark Funeral Home (4200 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood) with entombment to follow at 12:00 pm at Fred Hunter’s Hollywood Memorial Gardens (6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida).

Betty J. Miller, 92, formerly of Hollywood Florida, passed away February 10, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA to James and Sara Brennan. Betty worked for Barry University and the University of Miami department of Neurology as a secretary until retirement. She was a devout catholic and longstanding member of Nativity Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Legion of Mary and very active volunteering with Respect Life. She was married for 62 years to the love of her life Alfred P. Miller(predeceased) and they had 5 children together. Sons Kevin Miller and Alfred P. Miller Jr both (predeceased). She is survived by daughters Diane Diamond (Roland Dezentje) and Susan Miller; son Robert Miller (Annie Fair); grandchildren Jacqueline, Justin (Ashley), Meghan (Vernon), Josey, Courtney, and Crystal; great grandchildren Taylor, Avery, Lucas, Cash and niece Janice Matthews. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 18th, 10:30 – 11:30 at Landmark Funeral Home with Funeral Mass of the Resurrection at 12:00noon at Nativity Catholic Church followed by entombment at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in North Lauderdale.

Anna F. Rossi, 100, of Hollywood, passed away January 28, 2025. Born in Italy to Camilo Bagiotti and Virginia Nigri. She made her living as a successful business owner of an electronics company. Survived by daughters Elena Molina and Marilyn Rossi; sister-in-law Angela Bagiotti and grandson Louis (Monica) Molina. Beloved Father, Loving Grandpa, & Dearest Friend; Julius Bruce Chiusano, of Hollywood, Florida, known to family & friends as Bruce, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the age of 76 surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was born in Englewood, NJ to the late Betty & Julius Chiusano. Dear brother of the late Jeffery Chiusano and Gail Chiusano. Bruce grew up in North Bergen, NJ graduating from North Bergen High School in 1966. He proudly served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. He is survived by his loving children Brian Chiusano with Dawn Autuori, Dana Lyons with her husband Jared Lyons, Alexis Chiusano with mom Debi Bohanan and his dearest granddaughter Emma Grace Lyons. His absence leaves a void in all our hearts. Paul Victor DeBianchi

Paul Victor DeBianchi, 75, of Fort Lauderdale, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on November 16, 2024. Born on November 1, 1949, in Suffern, New York, Paul moved to South Florida at seven. A devoted Catholic, family man, friend, and lawyer, he graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 1973 as the family’s first attorney and served his clients with care for over 45 years. Beyond his work, Paul was a tech enthusiast and documentarian of family life. He loved traveling the world by cruise ship, and equally enjoyed the simple pleasures of home (including watching Star Trek, and later, Blue Bloods). A loyal Mai Kai fan, he’d be happy to know it reopened. Above all, Paul was a family man. He was active at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, an incredible father, and the proudest “Poppop” and Grandpa to his six grandchildren. His unconditional commitment and love for Valerie exemplified the vows of “in sickness and in health.” He taught his daughters the importance of hard work, patience, discipline, and integrity, lessons that will endure for generations to come. Paul will be forever cherished and is survived by his daughters Jessica and Samantha, their spouses Amir and Tony, grandchildren Paul, Robbie, Isabel, Domenic, Tarek and Luca, sister Loni James, brother Victor DeBianchi, Jr., nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 45 years, Valerie, who passed 5.5 months earlier. Paul’s legacy of love, resilience, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Though we grieve, we find comfort in knowing he and Valerie’s souls are reunited and at peace.

In the memo please write “In Memory of Richard Decatur II” . Richard Decatur II, known as “Richie,” passed away on January 13, 2025, in Dania Beach, Florida, at the age of 40. He was the younger of two children, born to Richard and Karen Decatur in Cheverly, MD. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought warmth and laughter to all who knew him. Richie was a simple guy who found joy in the little things—working on his cars, spending time at home with his parents, and hanging out with his neighbors. You could always find him outside tinkering with his cars or chatting with neighbors, offering advice on anything automotive. His greatest pride and joy was his 1980 Buick Regal, a restoration project he had been dedicated to for over 20 years. His proudest moments were spent bringing it back to life, pouring his heart and craftsmanship into every detail. He also devoted his talent in restoring his sister’s classic 1968 Ford Mustang, another testament to his passion and skill. Richie’s meticulous nature and strong work ethic meant he never missed a day on the job- he loved working at Dent Wizard, taking immense pride in everything he did. There, he formed a brotherhood with his co-workers, a bond that can never be broken. Beyond his love for cars, he was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh, lifting spirits with his clever remarks and effortless charm. His presence will be deeply missed. He is survived by his parents Richard and Karen Decatur; sister Christina Decatur Barreras, brother in law Henry Barreras, and nieces Arya Barreras and Madison Ortiz. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of hard work, humor, and passion will never be forgotten.
